Chamber reverb is an acoustic reverberation technique created by routing an audio send into an enclosed reflective space, such as a dedicated room, concrete basement, or tiled bathroom, where a loudspeaker plays the sound and a microphone captures the room decay. The captured acoustic reflection is then mixed back into the track. This imparts smooth decay, physical depth, and presence to selected elements.
How the songs in the archive use it
The Stroll sends the lead vocal and saxophone heavily to an acoustic echo chamber to bring them forward against a dry rhythm section, Sh-Boom routes vocals and saxophone to a speaker in a tiled bathroom for short acoustic decay, and Don't Be Cruel routes vocals into a concrete basement chamber for smooth sustain on a mono print.
How to do it in Logic Pro
Simulate sending a signal into a physical reflective chamber to create dense, smooth spatial depth around instruments. Use this on vocal, string, or horn aux sends to add diffuse dimension without cluttering the mix.
Create an aux channel strip and insert Space Designer on the track.
Route a bus send from your source track to the aux channel strip.
Set the dry and wet balance to output only the wet reverb signal on the aux return.
Fine-tune the predelay to separate the direct transient from the acoustic chamber reflections.

The Stroll by The DiamondsAcoustic Staging / Depth of Field: [Classic 1950s mono mixing technique. The rhythm section is kept incredibly dry and positioned "in the back" of the acoustic space, while the lead vocal and saxophone solo are heavily routed to the acoustic echo chamber, pushing them to the psychological "front" of the mix.]Sheet score 9/10 · Source given: Deductive audio analysis of Bill Putnam/Chicago era mixing styles · Open the full track sheet
Sh-Boom by The ChordsThe "Bathroom" Echo: A distinct, short-decay acoustic reverberation is audible on the lead vocals and saxophone. This was generated by routing an aux send from the console into a speaker placed in the Atlantic office's tiled bathroom, picked up by a microphone, and returned to the live mono mix.Sheet score 10/10 · Source given: Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler interviews regarding early Atlantic sound design · Open the full track sheet
